OXM I saw where the latest units named
"JASPER" are supposed to be the final answer to folk's problems with the E-74 and Red Ring of Death (
RROD) issues with Xbox 360 consoles.
The Jasper units have a bigger heatsink, less transistors, and a better laid out board. However one thing I noted was they still do not have a fan on the heatsink. As big as the new heatsink is it looks like they could have put a fan on it instead of as much heatsink metal. I guess the noise level increase would bother some. However, I'd rather have a noisy 360 than a hot one. One that subject I have owned 2 360's so far and neither one has RROD or broke in anyway. I bought my newest one after 2 years of having a non-HDMI one and that's the only reason I bought another unit. I do however have my 360 sitting on a desk with nothing obstructing the air flow and I have the power brick resting on the desk, well away from the console. (Knocks on wood) The ONLY problem I have seen with both units is over time the noise level increases. It sounds like it's the bearings in the DVD drive as the noise level only increases when an actual disc is being read.
